Bang Dang searches for the spatial in his work. Using lines, markings, colors, layers, smudges, scratches, and other various analog means, the artist explores how to maximize spatial compositions within two-dimensional parameters. The technique is the narrative and the experimentation in the work comes from such acts as testing when to use a certain quality of linework or studying how different media can be mixed and overlaid upon one another or how different types of paper absorb color and light to enhance transparency or to densify opacity. There is a strong belief that continually reworking the process and transforming existing techniques begins to let the elements within the piece tell their own stories. Simultaneously precise and technical yet intuitive and free form, the compositions are records of space making.
